The following information comes from the
Torontopedia page that talks about the importance of using your real name. We really suggest that you read it all the way through so that you know why we request your firstlast name as your username.
For those who decided not to click, here is why in a nutshell....lazies.
You need to be held responsible for what you post and as we all know, anyone can post slanderous, ugly, demeaning statements while using a fake name. This is not a the topix forum or your favorite teams message board, this is a site to inform those about El Paso. For all of you potential trolls....sorry.
If you want to write a negative review, that is ok, but let us know who you are...you don't see food critics going by fake names or movie critics for that matter. We live in a nation that recognizes free speech, but we must also be held responsible for what we say. As
Torontopedia says, consider this as an act of publishing, in a sense.
For those worried about Google
Use variation for your username. For example, (PDPete; PayDirtP; PYADRITPEET etc...)
In the end, we want accountability. You, as a user, build your reputation based on the value of your content. Recognize that people not from here might start visiting this site looking for reliable infomation. We want to provide that to them. So, as a community, and as a member of the community, it is up to you to be honest...hence, making you use your RealName as a way to hold you accountable.
For those that go by a nickname, that is ok as long as you know that the IP Addresses of all editors are logged and public. If you need more info, we suggest you check out
